County Court Judgment data is sent by the Registry Trust, and typically includes:

  • Date of issue.

  • Name.

  • Address.

  • Case reference.

  • Judgment amount.

  • Judgment status.

The court doesn’t provide claimant details to the credit reference agencies, so you would need to contact the court directly to find out which organisation raised the initial summons.

I have a CCJ on my credit report which belongs to a family member

The credit reference agencies receive all judgment data from the Registry Trust, but this only contains name and address details.

This means that your credit report can sometimes contain a CCJ entry belonging to a family member if you share similar name details (such as first initial and same surname). Here are steps you can follow to try and get things sorted:

  • Get in touch with the court that issued the judgment, provide the case reference number, and they should be able to help remove the entry from your credit report.

  • If contact with the court is unsuccessful, you can speak to the claimant (the organisation that requested the summons).

  • The claimant should be able to provide written confirmation that the judgment doesn't belong to you, which will allow you to raise a data dispute through your Checkmyfile account.

How can I dispute a CCJ listed on my credit report?

County Court Judgment data is sent by the court to the Registry Trust, which is then reported to the credit reference agencies.

As the court controls the data, they should be able to handle any dispute you have regarding a judgment listed on your credit report.

All the court would usually need is the case reference number, which can be found on your report – it should then be able to locate the judgment and handle your dispute.
