How do I add a Notice of Correction to my credit report?
Anyone can add a Notice of Correction of no more than 200 words to their credit report. But we don’t recommend it for most people. This is because:
It slows down your applications. Most credit applications are assessed automatically. If you have a Notice of Correction, a lender is forced to read it, meaning your application must be processed manually. Every application you make will be delayed as a result.
It draws attention to unfavourable details. If the notice relates to adverse information, it could put the focus on this rather than making a positive impact on your applications.
They are being used for excuses not corrections. A Notice of Correction is designed to correct an error, not express a point of view.
If you’ve carefully considered it and still want to add a Notice of Correction, you just need to send it to us, and we’ll ask the credit reference agencies to add it to your report.
Alternatively, you can write to the agencies directly and ask them to add it. Either way, they must do it within 28 days. Remember, the Notice must be suitable for publication and cannot be incorrect or defamatory in any way.
