Credit reports are generated using automated systems, meaning there's often little room for error. Sometimes even the slightest difference in name or address format can affect whether your information is matched and returned on your credit report.

It's really important to always use the same name and address format for any application, whether it be for a mortgage, credit card, a new Electoral Roll listing, and so on. The likelihood is that if we've had trouble generating a credit report for you, any prospective lenders will experience the same issues, making it difficult for them to approve your application.

You can check that we hold your information correctly by heading to the 'Details' section of your Checkmyfile account. If you believe we're searching your details correctly, but there's still information missing from your credit report, let us know and we’ll take a look.

Another possibility is that it’s too soon for the information to show on your report. Updates to your credit report will vary depending on the type of information in question. Loosely speaking, timescales based on the information type are outlined below:

Credit Account

Lenders send updates to the agencies no more than once a month and, on that basis, we usually see new information filter through anywhere from 24 hours up to 6 weeks. Depending on the time of the month that the lender sends its update to the credit reference agencies, information can appear up to two months out of date at the very extreme.

Court Information

We expect to see updated court information filter through to your credit report within 28 days.

Electoral Roll

Due to the amount of data being collated, Electoral Roll updates tend to take the longest compared to other information on your credit report. From start to finish, we usually see a new Electoral Roll listing filter through to your credit report within three months – it usually takes at least one month for the credit reference agencies to be made aware of a new registration.
